Iconoid has not been ported by its creators to work on 64-bit Vista but it has been ported by a third party.  Its developers warn you that it may not be stable and provide other cautions before using it but it works.

The regular version of Iconoid, which is for all 32-bit versions of Windows will not function correctly on 64-bit Vista.  It will either not start or [...]]]> http://vista.blorge.com/2008/05/16/how-to-hide-desktop-icons-in-64-bit-vista/ Businesses refuse to adopt Windows Vista Businesses refuse to adopt Windows VistaPerhaps one of the largest factors to Vista’s success or failure is whether or not companies choose to adopt the new Windows Vista operating system, stick with the tried and true XP, or hold off until Windows 7. It would seem that businesses don’t see any perks to adopting Vista, which doesn’t bode well for Microsoft.

A recent article in Business Week unveils the true perspectives large businesses and corporations have on adopting Microsoft’s newest Windows operating system. For the CIO of Alaska Airlines, upgrading to Vista just isn’t smart. He said, [...]]]> http://vista.blorge.com/2008/05/15/businesses-refuse-to-adopt-windows-vista/ Google will pass profits of Microsoft Windows in 2009 Google will pass profits of Microsoft Windows in 2009Everything is swell when you’re a monopoly; you have the run of your playground, and plenty of minions to look up to you. In Microsoft’s case, Google is the monopoly running an adjacent playground, and threatening to come over and take control, because Google will be more profitable than Microsoft Windows within one year.

According to the Silicon Alley Insider, Google’s search engine alone will become more profitable than Microsoft Windows by 2009. Though SAI compares them as similar monopolies, there are a few distinctions:

Yes, you heard it right according to Bill Gates they plan on making Windows 7 much more efficient.

Some of you may have seen me vent about the stiff hardware requirements Vista imposes, and this is a serious problem if Microsoft expects users to migrate to the latest operating system without having to shell out for a new computer. An issue has cropped up that seems to affect systems using AMD processors and OEM XP images as well as systems using certain AMD motherboards.  Microsoft says it is looking into the situation and will report back when it has an exact cause and solution; don’t hold your breath.

Things do look better when rendered in DirectX 10 but its hard to say that its ugly when looking at it in DirectX 9 only.  Gamers typically have the best systems with the fastest hardware and don’t have the usual problems other users might face when upgrading to a new, demanding operating system like Vista.

However, it turns out Vista is still 37% less vulnerable than XP which many hail to be the most popular Windows ever. It would make sense the more popular the OS the more malware available for that platform, hence Apple’s argument their OS is more secure than Microsoft’s. That does raise an interesting point; does that mean Vista is slightly more popular and secure than Windows 2000 was?
