Microsoft has always maintained that Windows Vista sold well despite the bad press it received in the run-up to launch and beyond. However, those figures are now being put into perspective by the Windows 7 sales figures in Europe. To say Windows 7 is proving popular is a huge understatement.

Microsoft has warned users of Google Apps that a new tool for syncing the system to Outlook is faulty. Using the tool unintentionally stops Windows Desktop Search from accessing Outlook messages.

Some people are finding that while testing Windows 7 the older security software used on XP or Vista do not function correctly in Windows 7. Currently there isn’t much to choose from in the way of security software for Windows 7, but a few companies are providing beta versions of their security suites for Windows 7.

One of the nice things about Windows Vista is the way that it allows you to directly open your Documents folder without having to know its exact physical location. But what happens if your drive is filling up and you wish to relocate your Documents folder to a different physical location such as a second hard drive? What if you want all your data files in one convenient location for backups? What if you just want to be different?

A prominent question I’m always asked when something goes wrong with Vista is; Why are there so many instances of “svchost.exe” running, is that why it’s so slow? While the answer most likely is yes, it’s important to understand what svchost.exe is and how it work with Vista.

Windows Vista is a large operating system, there’s no denying it. With so many services and processes running in the background, even a system with more than sufficient memory can become bogged down quickly. Vista consumes 32MBs of graphics memory alone, while the many included services take up nearly 512MBs on average, leaving little room for performance- especially on slower machines with little memory.

I have to admit, I am a fan of Bluetooth. Mainly because it’s just about the only wireless standard that can be built into laptops and support everything from input devices to wireless headsets. Wires are so 20th century and therefore are lame. But, if you have a laptop that doesn’t have built-in Bluetooth, semi-awesomeness can be had with USB Bluetooth dongles.

There’s long been a complaint from Vista users in regards to always having to enter an email password when sending or receiving messages in Outlook 2007 and Windows Mail. While the problem exists in Windows XP as well, it seems to be easier to remedy with a quick settings-change in Outlook, but the same fix in Vista doesn’t always work.
