Yesterday, Microsoft announced that its new cloud office suite was now available. According to the company, “It brings together Office, SharePoint, Exchange, and Lync in an always-up-to-date cloud service.” There are different monthly subscription levels depending on the size of your enterprise.

Microsoft has a new cloud computing setup called Office 365, and it was just released in public beta. Along with Office 365 is Office 365 Marketplace that offers additional apps and services for use with the program.

Microsoft has been working on its cloud computing products and marketing for a while now. In the crowded cloud of Google Docs, Zoho, Yahoo, Rackspace, Salesforce and Amazon to name a few, Microsoft is banking on its name and proven desktop solutions to bring in cloud computing sales. So far it is working.

Microsoft has formally launched Lync, a software suite designed to make it easier for businesses to integrate multiple forms of communications. It claims the average company would make back the cost of the suite in increased efficiency within a year.

Google has demonstrated its latest weapon in the bid to capture Office users that might have been tempted by the online edition of the suite. It’s working on a ribbon for Office that makes it much easier to transfer documents between Microsoft’s desktop application and Google Docs.

Microsoft sent out an email yesterday announcing the upgrade of Windows Live Workspace. The service is now called Windows Live SkyDrive. You get most of the features of Live Workspace with a few added features.

The University of Arizona has chosen Microsoft Business Productivity Online Suite for use by their faculty and staff. The suite is a cloud computing method of connecting faculty and staff and encouraging collaboration. It will also move communications at the University into the 21st century.
