First impressions of Windows 7 RC1

untitled-2The general public will have to wait until May 5 to get their hands on Windows 7 RC1. The press and Web sites are being given early access to it. Being a writer for this site does have some privileges and I was able to download the RC early. Here are some first impressions, but a full review will be coming later.

Windows 7 tested and reviewed There are hundreds of Windows 7 reviews out there.  We hope this review might bring something slightly different to the table.  Windows 7 is impressive, very impressive.  Be advised that the public beta offering will be pulled on Feb. 10, 2009 so if you are interested, best to grab it now.

Windows 7 public beta availability extended to February 10 Demand for Windows 7 has been overwhelming.  Be it those who enjoy testing operating systems or those who just want to get rid of Vista but don’t want XP.  Microsoft has extended the public availability of the Windows 7 beta until Feb. 10.

Microsoft may be recycling Windows 7 activation keys Microsoft fumbled the initial Windows 7 beta offering taking it down for about 24 hours will it added “infrastructure” to deal with “demand.”  That’s not all the company may be doing.  The download is back up but something odd has cropped up in the activation keys.

Windows 7 beta trials without keys to last 30 days Microsoft has officially announced MSDN and Technet availability of the Windows 7 beta, as previously reported.  What was a bit sketchy at the time was the limitation of 2.5 million downloads.  The company isn’t really limiting the downloads but they are limiting how many keys are handed out for the beta.

Windows 7 beta available on MSDN and Technet, public release “soon” During Microsoft’s CES keynote the company announced that the Windows 7 beta would be available to MSDN and Technet subscribers.  Surely enough of it is there for those users to download.  Windows 7 beta should be available to the general public very soon.

Windows 7 seen as “Vista done right” It’s fairly obvious that Vista has been a flop and users as well as industry professionals have made Microsoft well aware of this fact.  There is almost no compelling reason for the average user or business to put money into upgrading to Vista.  Some of these people are best advised to wait anyway because Windows 7 promises to be “Vista done right.”
