Whatever your views on Windows, it’s fair to say Microsoft co-founder Paul Allen deserves major credit for helping build the home and business computing market. But in a scattergun lawsuit he’s just filed, Allen attempts to take even more credit, to a truly laughable degree.

Microsoft is reportedly set to spend at least $400 million on marketing Windows Phone 7 at launch. Which, though not a fortune to Microsoft, does suggest Redmond realizes that its new mobile operating system could be the last throw of the dice.

Microsoft is warning users of Windows Home Server to take care when buying new hard drives. Those using the 4k sector format, which will be the standard from next year, may cause significant performance problems with the system.

If you speak English and live in North America, consider Yahoo search dead. Microsoft has announced the relevant results are now powered entirely by Bing, one of the first major transitions since the two companies agreed a long-term search deal.

Microsoft has ruled out a patch for an underlying issue believed to have created security problems in as many as 40 different applications. The company says it will only tackle the issue in a future service pack or new editions of Office.

A German retailer appears to have jumped the gun in unveiling Microsoft’s new curved mouse design. The error revealed that the touch element of the Arc Touch Mouse is a little underwhelming.

If you’re a Windows users who normally takes no notice of Apple’s attempts to update your software (particularly when it’s trying to palm off Safari to you), make sure you do download the latest update to the QuickTime player. It fixes a potential security flaw.
