Bing continues to innovate – a recipe to beat Google on search?
At the moment, Google is leagues ahead of Bing, both in terms of popularity and sheer usability. However, Microsoft seems intent on turning Bing into a real player in the ultra-competitive search market, and its continuous new innovations and features could surely mean that Bing one day challenges the might of Google.
Microsoft launched Bing last June to a mixture of nonchalant shrugging and mild interest. The problem, as most industry watchers and ordinary users would attest, is that Google is so common and all-encompassing that any new entry in the search market is always bound to play second fiddle.
However, Microsoft has risen to this challenge, and is slowly turning Bing into a real contender. If this were a boxing match, Google would have won the first two rounds unruffled, but Bing would be entering the third energized and determined to finish the bout still standing.
Bing came loaded with a number of features not available on Google, and has continued to add more. These include Visual Search, Travel Insights, and BingTweets. There is also a Maps feature being trialled that could challenge Google’s complete dominance in this sector. It even has its own version of Street View, called Streetside.
The newest feature to be added to Bing’s already-impressive roster is Bing Recipes, which can be seen in action in this video direct from the Bing blog.
Bing Recipes takes the hassle out of finding recipes online for specific ingredients you want to cook with. When you search for an item of food, Bing draws results from a number of popular recipe Web sites, including delish.com, MyRecipes.com, and epicurious.com. It then displays recipes that can be created using the foodstuff you searched for.
By itself, Bing Recipes is nothing that special, but it is another Bing innovation not offered by Google, and that is all important. Google may still hold the advantage on delivering speedy and relevant search results, but Bing is rapidly differentiating itself with a host of new features.
