Black Friday deals for Microsoft fans

November 25, 2009

With Black Friday approaching, there are plenty of deals aimed at fans of Windows. There’s also good news for those shopping online via Bing.

The most high-profile Windows location this year is Saks on Fifth Avenue in Manhattan. There’s a temporary mini-Microsoft store, along with a 20-screen display in the window, which is displaying all messages on Twitter that contain the hashtag “#holidaywindows”. If you’re thinking that would simply degenerate into a PC vs Mac flame war, you’d be right: of the 20 most recent messages at the moment I write this, half were either slamming Windows, praising Macs, or both.

The biggest bargain appears to be at BestBuy which offering an HP laptop for $197, complete with 2GB of RAM and a 160GB hard drive. The downside is that it doesn’t appear the machine runs Windows 7. Still, that’s an impressive price for a mainstream manufacturer machine with no strings attached such as mobile broadband subscriptions. The store is also still offering its Windows 7 promotional deal of three HP machines (desktop, laptop, netbook) running the system, plus wireless router and set-up, for $1,199.

It’s not all great new for Microsoft however. It appears that with the economy still in rough shape, many stores will be offering below-cost-price deals on everyday items as a way to get shoppers through the doors. That could take away shoppers who’d normally head to electrical and tech retailers offering discounts on high-price goods such as giant TVs.

For those buying online, Microsoft’s search engine Bing is jacking up its cashback deals from Friday with some major retailers offering up to 35 percent back. That should help the site get past some recent negative publicity.

You should really do your homework. Have you seen a single photo or video of a Tweet from a mac fan boy in any of the Windows.

Saks is not that stupid to let it go unfiltered. What’s funnier, and sad is all teh energy these mac fans are spending on this. Couldn’t they be doing something useful with that time?

All those specials contain computers with cheap hardware and processors, outdated.

@Jim – Well, duh, dude. Is anyone really expecting state of the art for $200? If so, I’ve got a bridge I can sell them at a real bargain.
Seriously, though, most people don’t need anywhere near the fastest and the bestest processors and hardware with 800GB hard drives. They don’t need Windows 7 or even Vista, for that matter. Long as you have broadband and at least 2GB or RAM, you’re set.
