Windows 7 wins rave reviews, but could it be another Vista?  Windows 7 is almost here, with just two weeks until Microsoft’s latest operating system is unleashed on the great unwashed. Everything has so far gone swimmingly, with a good beta testing and very positive reviews from people who should know what they’re talking about. But wait a goddamn minute. Is there any chance that Windows 7 could turn out to be another Vista?

EU warms to Windows browser ballot screen; unveils details of how it would workPeace between Microsoft and the European Union looks a step closer today after EU officials said they would likely be satisfied with the firm’s proposals for settling the Internet Explorer bundling row. The woman in charge of EU competition policy agreed to test plans to offer Windows users a choice of browsers.

, Neelie Kroes said Microsoft had tweaked its proposals for a “ballot screen” after discussions with officials. Under the revised system, people setting up Windows for the first time will see a screen explaining what a web browser is. They’ll then see a list of browsers to choose between, each with a “Tell me more” button linking to more details about that particular browser.

Vista market share plunges as Windows 7 surges earlyWindows 7 is now just a few weeks from going on general release, with Oct. 22 the date when all of us will be able to get our hands on Microsoft’s newest operating system. And it’s at that point that Vista will become old and outdated. But it seems the trend is ahead of the expected curve, with Vista losing some of its market share and Windows 7 already picking up the slack.
