Microsoft promotes Windows 7 parties with best worst video ever

Microsoft promotes Windows 7 parties with best worst video everWindows 7 is so close you can almost reach out and touch it, with the Oct. 22 release date edges ever nearer. But how are you going to celebrate the launch of Microsoft’s newest operating system? What do you mean you weren’t planning to – isn’t everyone having a Windows 7 party?

Microsoft is desperate for Windows 7 to be successful and for the Windows 7 launch to go off without a hitch. While that might be wishful thinking, it could certainly be a lot less rocky than the release of Vista was. One of the initiatives Microsoft is pushing to promote the release of Windows 7 is the idea of throwing a Windows 7 party.

The idea was unveiled at the beginning of September, with people in selected countries able to apply to host an official Windows 7 party. There is, of course, nothing stopping anyone hosting a party on Oct. 22 and having Windows 7 as a guest, but Microsoft is only providing support for a number of them around the world.

Emails have now been sent to all those chosen as official hosts, and according to Ars Technica, Microsoft has had to add another layer of filtering because of “an overwhelming response from people interested in hosting a Windows 7 launch party.” I’m guessing there are a lot of Microsoft fanboys out there who need an excuse to host a party, or maybe there are just a lot of people who want a free copy of Windows 7 Ultimate for their trouble.

Whether you’ve been chosen as an official host or just want to host one anyway, Microsoft realizes you’re going to need some tips on how best to host your Windows 7 party. So it has produced this video to help all budding nerds. A video I consider to be one of the best ever made. Because it is so bad, obviously.

This is the proper, unedited version of the video. And it’s funny enough watching four people standing around discussing hosting Windows 7 parties and fake laughing their way through their realizations that they’re ubergeeks. But a little bit of editing which employs a bleep machine quite heavily makes it even more of a gem.

Maybe I’m being a little cynical but a Windows 7 party? Is Microsoft serious? As someone who is looking forward to getting his hands on Windows 7 I should be exactly the type of person being targeted by this initiative. But I can’t say it’s really my bag. In fact, the party that those four are discussing in the second video sounds much more like my sort of thing. Except none of those four would actually be invited.

Austin Powers, is that you? Shagadelic!

You’re correct this is stupid. But not as stupid as camping out at an Apple Store.

Why does Microsoft “need” Windows 7 parties for? Most reviews of Windows 7 has been positive and the consensus that Windows 7 will be a success. Or is it that Microsoft was so burned by Vista, that they are going all out to make sure Windows 7 is a success?

WOW!!! I was playing the videos and my wife said STOP PLEASE!!! I am about to puke my tea all over the floor…

Are they really serious about these parties? TUPPERWARE anyone?!?

    Argh!
