Windows Vista era is over – if it ever actually existed

Windows Vista era is over - if it ever actually existedWindows 7 is now out in the wild and only a couple of months away from being available to everyone who wants it. Which means the Windows Vista era is over, that is if it ever actually existed in the first place. Sure, Vista had a couple of years as Microsoft’s leading operating system, but it didn’t exactly set the world alight in that time.

Windows Vista has completely failed in its mission, which was surely to wean people of XP and persuade them to adopt a new OS. They didn’t do this, at least not in the numbers Microsoft must have hoped for. Over 60 percent of people who own a computer today are using Windows XP as their primary operating system. Vista is being used by around 25 percent of people, with the rest made up of of people using an even older Windows OS, Apple Mac, or Linux.

Microsoft would argue that Vista has been a success in its two-and-a-half-years on sale. But it clearly hasn’t. Technologizer has looked at the reasons why this is the case and the edited highlights are studied below.

Vista was late in arriving and then when it did finally make its debut in January 2007 it completely failed to live up to the substantial hype. The new features at first felt either unnecessary or tacked-on, even if they have since become a tolerable or even desirable part of the Windows OS. Meanwhile, longstanding problems that Windows users had been moaning about for years were left in place.

Compatibility and driver issues were worse than they usually are when a new Windows OS is released, and it’s taken two service packs for these issues to mostly be solved. All of this played into the hands of the anti-Microsoft brigade who, rightly at first, dismissed Vista as a terrible OS. That stigma unfortunately stuck even though a PC bought now with Vista pre-installed would likely change the minds of most people who gave Vista stick in the early days.

And the main reason why the Windows Vista era was either non-existent or instantly forgettable was because XP still did a fine enough job for the vast majority of people. In fact, that’s still the case. However, come Oct. 22 when Windows 7 is released to the mainstream, the situation should finally change. While XP is still a fine OS, the world needs to move on, skipping Vista and heading straight for Windows 7.

If your XP computer is still running good…why upgrade to Windows 7 ? Because Microsoft says so?

I doubt that very much. The fact that the OS doesn’t recognize the owner as having administrative rights when loading drivers and that everything is second guessed by Vista. The incompatability to many programmes, the lack of meaningful support from Microsoft – the list goes on and on. Add a few more bandaids and change the name – I think Microsoft have lost their edge. They gave themselves a bad name by ripping off the consumer.

What do you mean that vista era is over? Win7 is just improved Vista and all the tips and trics what works in Vista works in Win7 too. Call win7 Vista sp3 if you like it, it tells more about the whole situation.

If you did not upgrade to Vista, then why to upgrade to win7 as it’s the same os?

Vista is just starting to intergreated in large companies. The defense contractor I work for is going to Vista and finally dropping XP.
I use Vista Ultimate 64 at home. Have never had any problems with it. Haven’t found anything that runs on an XP machine that won’t run on my Vista machine.
Windows 7 is just an improved version of Vista, otherwise there is no difference.

I will never get windows 7 or Vista… reasons being
    1. There is no use for it, windows XP is great!!
    2. Vista sucks donkey shlong.
    3. Windows 7 will be sucking donkey’s since it’s Vista in disguise, with all the crap that doesn’t work on Vista still in Windows 7 just with some band-aids on it that still don’t work right. Long Live XP!!!
