Microsoft still has surprises in store for Windows 7

Microsoft still has surprises in store for Windows 7Windows 7 is going to be released, well, no-one quite knows when. But I can confidently predict it’ll be within the next 12 months with the next nine months being a distinct possibility. The Beta Builds are already gaining lots of positive review but it seems Microsoft isn’t quite done with tinkering around on its latest OS just yet.

Now that we all know of the existence of Windows 7, and we know roughly what it’s due to look and feel like, I have the distinct impression I’m not alone in just wanting it to be released already. I personally can’t wait for Microsoft to right the wrongs and win over the doubters it created when it released the mess that was Vista. And Windows 7 could do just that.

Many of us have already seen Windows 7 in action thanks to the Beta Builds released, and we’re now likely only a month or so away from the Release Candidate seeing the light of day. But while the Windows 7 Beta Build 7000, and after, releases are officially feature-complete, it looks as though some surprises have been held back to a later date.

Speaking at a briefing from Microsoft UK’s London HQ, Windows OEM manager, Laurence Painell told PC Pro that there will be a “couple of additional, quite major announcements” in the coming weeks. Unfortunately, he wouldn’t go into any more detail and also wouldn’t reveal when either the RC or the Retail Copy will be released.

Microsoft has already made a raft of both major and minor changes to Windows 7 since that early Beta Build, and you have to assume there will be more made in the coming weeks. It could be that the final release candidate is a lot more feature-laden and user-friendly than we already thought it would be.

There is still an ongoing debate as to when Windows 7 will finally be released to an expectant public. With the RC not making its debut until May or possibly June, Microsoft will be hard-pushed to get it in computers and on store shelves before the all-important holiday season.

The biggest surprise may be that it actually works!

Microsoft is in terminal decline, and it will be surprising if Windows 7 changes that.

Install Vista with Sp-2 and you have the essence of 7 right now.

What do you mean by latest os? Win7 is Vista but with new package. If you’re not going to upgrade to Vista, then you wont need win7 either as you will be fine with your dead old dos and win 3.11 with your old software what you¨re using.
