Four security suites for Windows 7 beta
Some people are finding that while testing Windows 7 the older security software used on XP or Vista do not function correctly in Windows 7. Currently there isn’t much to choose from in the way of security software for Windows 7, but a few companies are providing beta versions of their security suites for Windows 7.
None of them are officially supported by the companies. Meaning if you get into trouble and need tech support it will not be provided.
Norton 360, AVG and Kaspersky all have Windows 7 compatible security suites in testing. Keep in mind that Windows 7 should not be used on a production system and by extension beta security suites.
AVG advertises the fact that its software is pretty much ready to go for Windows 7 and currently has the paid versions on offer. Since the paid versions are extensions of the free edition it could be reasoned that the free version will function on Windows 7 as well.
Norton 360 and Kaspersky are pretty much fully functional beta “trials” which no doubt have an expiration date which is not discussed.
It should also be noted that Avast functions flawlessly under Windows 7 as well. Microsoft praises the companies for their efforts,
It is great to see that these partners were able to have their solutions working so early in our development process. We will add additional partners to the Windows 7 Security Provider page when they make Windows 7 versions publicly available.
There may be others that function just as well in Vista as Windows 7 but given the sheer number of security suites and options it would be impossible to know every single one unless it is specifically mentioned by the vendor.

I’m using Norton 360 BETA at the moment, but I only have like 5 days left… It would’ve been ok if the beta lasted until the windows 7 beta expired…
Anyways, I’ll just uninstall and install another one… Maybe I’ll try kaspersky…
So far 360 has worked very smoothly, actually I can’t complain. It’s never crashed whatsoever..
