Windows 7 beta 1 exceeds quality of Vista

December 28, 2008

Windows 7 beta 1 exceeds quality of Vista Improving upon Vista would not be a hard task even for the most incompetent of programmers but Microsoft has done more than that with Windows 7.  If the first looks are to be believed the first beta of Windows 7 could be released to the masses right now.

Redmond appears to have outdone itself with the quality of Windows 7.  It did not do “just enough” but seems to have really put a ton of quality control into making sure that Windows 7 would be as close to perfection as possible.

Vista had problems from day one and the final version was often called a beta or barely alpha.  This is not the case with Windows 7.

ZDnet reports that Windows 7 will only have one beta before it is released.  This beta appears to be the highest quality beta ever released by Microsoft and possibly the best operating system since Windows XP.

The author says,

“This beta is of excellent quality. This is the kind of code that you could roll out and live with.”

In other words Windows 7 is complete, finished, done.  Additionally it was reported that this beta was faster and more responsive than earlier versions and that probably includes Vista.

A lot of rumors pointed to an early 2010 release for Windows 7 but given that it is complete and all the features are functional it is unlikely that it will be that late.  It is possible that Microsoft could release Windows 7 in the summer of 2009 and still have far fewer problems with it than it ever did with Vista.

Unfortunately there are no official benchmarks for Windows 7 beta yet but those should be coming along in the next few days.

It’s looking like Windows 7 won’t be the train wreck that Vista was but then again it would be difficult for any company to not improve on one of its worst products ever.

Vista being a train wreck should have fueled Linux adoption but the biggest beneficiary turned out to be XP.

What’s the problem? It this just because Windows and Macs have advertising agencies?

  2. Ken:

It’s because they come preinstalled. Linux is never going to grab significant marketshare.

Most people can’t reinstall Windows, how likely are they to use Linux?

“This beta is of excellent quality [...] code that you could [...] live with.”

Is it true that this is what Microsoft has been reduced to? Is their yardstick for excellence to ask if something can be “lived with”? It’s all rather sad and a bit pathetic. I wonder, are “living with” DRM in Windows 7?

Amazing how a beta version of unreleased software is already so hyped and praised. After the Vista fiasco, one can only hope the public will take a wait and see attitude.

This whole Windows 7 beta hype makes the Mojave deception seem tame.

I’d like to see the operating system the author of this article created as he calls Microsoft incompetent.

Change the wrapper and cut out some bloat and amazing what brain dead people will believe.

How about some honesty, you godamn shit!
Win 7, is nothing more Vista with a new bow.
