Windows Vista says goodbye, “7” says hello

December 24, 2008

windows71 Windows 7 is all set to be the savior of Microsoft if the early versions are any indication.  We should all prepare to bid Vista a fond farewell and prepare to welcome Windows 7.

Early versions of Microsoft’s latest operating system are already floating around and have been tested by a select few.  PCWorld reports that a beta version of Windows 7 could make an appearance at CES in January.

It is still expected that the company will release Vista in 2010 but there is a possibility of an earlier release because of poor consumer response to Vista.  At this point there is no fighting the negative image of Vista no matter how many problems Microsoft actually manages to fix with service packs.

A few businesses have decided to skip Vista entirely and wait for Windows 7 to be released.  That doesn’t mean that companies will upgrade their equipment to run Windows 7 or upgrade existing copies of XP.

Consumers however will be given little choice.  It will come down to living with Windows XP, which not a lot of people seem to have a problem with, living with Vista or upgrading to Windows 7.  You can also be guaranteed that as soon as Windows 7 comes out that every single PC on the market will have it.

As the release date nears it may even be a possibility that there is a Windows 7 upgrade program like there was with Vista.  That’s not official but don’t be surprised if Microsoft institutes such a program to encourage people to upgrade.  Perhaps it would be a bit more successful with that than it was with Vista.
