Microsoft is dropping the Bill Gates/Jerry Seinfeld adverts in favour of a more direct response to Apple’s “I’m a Mac, I’m a PC” campaign. But a company spokesman insists the move was planned before the Seinfeld spots even aired.

There’s long been a complaint from Vista users in regards to always having to enter an email password when sending or receiving messages in Outlook 2007 and Windows Mail. While the problem exists in Windows XP as well, it seems to be easier to remedy with a quick settings-change in Outlook, but the same fix in Vista doesn’t always work.

With businesses of all sizes feeling the pinch, there’s a theory gathering ground that Vista upgrades might be getting put on hold as a cost-cutting measure. It comes as a leading analyst predicts IT spending will be lower than expected next year.

It’s emerged that Google’s Chrome browser, created using a host of open-source coding, actually includes Microsoft content. While it was used perfectly legally, Google made little mention of the Microsoft connection when launching Chrome.

There’s increasing speculation about the release schedule of Windows 7, the successor to Vista. While some sources say the first public beta release could be delayed until December, another report suggests the finished edition might be released as early as next summer.

The computer magazine Maximum PC says its performance tests show Microsoft has fixed many of the initial problems with Vista. And it reports a Microsoft official having “conceded that Microsoft botched the Vista launch”.

We’re yet to see an episode of the ‘I’m a Mac, I’m a PC’ ads end with PC beaten into unconsciousness. So for now we’ll have to stick with the latest edition of iTunes reportedly causing widespread terminal crashes for Vista users.

Remote desktop is a great feature in Windows. Whether you need to connect to another computer in your network, or connect to your computer from anywhere there’s an internet connection, it’s an excellent alternative to more complicated remote connection methods. Turning on and configuring remote desktop is a lot easier than many people think, mainly because Vista takes care of the more complicated security measures for you.

Microsoft has issued its monthly security update, containing a relatively low four updates. However, all eight problems fixed by the update are ranked critical, making them particularly important to check out for anyone not using the automatic update and installation.

The $10 million Microsoft paid Jerry Seinfeld was a waste of money if media commentator responses are anything to go by. Most writers seem utterly baffled by the way ‘Shoe Circus’ fails to actually say anything about Vista, Windows or Microsoft in general.

Hewlett Packard is reportedly looking at ways to either make Vista easier to use, or even creating its own operating system. The studies appear to be HP’s response to concerns of losing business to Apple in the low-priced notebook market.

Extensoft announced today the release of its Extensions for Windows, which is a product that significantly broadens the functionality of both Windows XP and Vista. "Extensions for Windows" is the first community driven, modular upgrade for Windows XP and Vista and contains a number of new features Windows users have desired for a long time.
