Today Microsoft announced that it will be extending XP licensing to Nettop devices, which are essentially low powered desktops. This is a surprising move leaving many scratching their collective heads.

Silverlight, Microsoft’s recently debuted web platform, has a whole lot of potential relatively untapped at this time. In fact, Silverlight could be Microsoft’s “in” to the web. If Silverlight really has the potential some believe it to, and if Microsoft is really looking to get with the times, could Microsoft be preparing to release a web-based version of the Office productivity suite to the world?

Microsoft in the past have been the industry leader when it came to leading the pack on what should be supported and what should not. However as of late it seems Microsoft has been largely getting dragged around by the industry and not the other way around.
