Vista rejected by Intel for all time

By Jonathan Schlaffer

Vista rejected by Intel for all time Vista has received a less than lukewarm reception by the masses.  One would think that Intel would adopt Microsoft’s latest operating system for its own operations.  This has not happened and is likely to never happen.

In public appearances, Intel is a strong supporter of Microsoft but that’s just a show for the audience.  It would seem that behind the scenes, Intel has no love for Vista and maybe less love for Microsoft as a whole.

The Inquirer reports that there is a memo circulating around Intel that it will never deploy Vista, ever.  When the largest manufacturer of processors says it isn’t going to deploy Vista then clearly something is very wrong with the product.

The company’s official answer about potential future upgrades is that it will “likely adopt” Windows 7.  However, there are other options open to the company for “upgrades.”

As it is pointed out in the article, Apple is loyal to Intel and Intel could certainly deploy Mac OSX on a wide basis with few problems.  This may seem unlikely but given the dissatisfaction with Vista it should not be discounted as a possibility.

Intel has basically told Microsoft that it can keep Vista and that other options will be considered.  It doesn’t look like Windows 7 will be a great option for the company either.  If not Mac OSX, it’s very likely that some distro of Linux will be used.

Perhaps this time Microsoft has learned a lesson.  Vista may be an “okay” operating system but it’s not perceived as such.  Most see it as junk or little more than Windows ME II.  If the company has any sense about it, it will continue to offer Windows XP after the “cut-off” date.

The only question in my mind is how will Redmond respond to this?  But then again, it may not respond at all.

Quote: “When the largest manufacturer of processors says it isn’t going to deploy Vista then clearly something is very wrong with the product.” Quite so; one imagines that Microsoft diehards are somewhat at a loss to explain this turn of events. It can hardly be claimed that Intel is a collective of geeks, fanatics, losers, blind fools, or whatever other pejoratives may be applied, and the “Microsoft-is-best” brigade must be fairly choking on their Weet Bix at this news.

Quote: “Vista may be an “okay” operating system … “. Mate, are you serious? Have you been on the turps? Did someone from Microsoft visit you and make veiled threats? Have a read of what is out there in the press and on the blogs, have a chat to people in the industry and to users - Vista is probably the biggest dog of an operating system in the world, ever - the fallout is certainly dwarfing anything that has gone before. A majority of people who have had the misfortune to use it have found it to be annoying at the very least, and a fully-fledged nightmare at worst. There is such a stench associated with Vista that many people now wouldn’t touch it with a forty-foot barge pole, and Microsoft looks increasingly like a rabbit staring into the headlights of an oncoming truck.
