Vista loses crown of worst operating system to Windows ME

April 22, 2008

Vista loses crown of worst operating system to Windows MEDemocracy works.  Instead of declaring Windows ME as the worst operating system of all time myself, I decided to let our readers decided and indeed, all of you did decided and gave Windows ME the crown of worst operating system over Windows ME, though, I’m told the poll was a bit flawed.

The poll as it was,

Which operating system from Microsoft is the worst?

Windows ME (53% – 72 votes)

Windows Vista (35% – 48 votes)

It hasn’t been released yet (7% – 10 votes)

Windows XP (2% – 3 votes)

Other (2% – 3 votes)

Some of you thought that Windows 3.1, several versions of DOS and Microsoft Bob should have been in the choices as well.  I think this is a very good idea so look for this poll in the near future.  I hope 2% of you just have a sense of humor.

You should know that it didn’t dawn on me to offer those as choices because I was born in the early 1980s, computers were barely computers and a GUI interface was the stuff dreams were made off and only existed within research labs or at Xerox which foolishly gave their technology to Apple which ripped it off which Microsoft later stole.

All for the better I say, I’d hate to be toiling away at a terminal right now, I think I’d rather have laser eye surgery or a root canal without a local anesthetic.

I didn’t really begin following the hardware/software industry until 1995 by which time Microsoft Bob had been quietly buried and Windows 3.1 had been surpassed by Windows 95.  Now, sure, I do remember using things before that but I don’t really remember what they were.  It’s a good guess I touched Windows 3.1 and DOS at some point but was just typing in what someone else told me to.

As one of the 2%, it’s amusing. It actually took skill back in those days. And there were gui in the 80’s. They were just fancy menu’s. The programs were graphical, and you returned to the menu’s when the app was closed. I could list everything a worker needed to do in a simple text file.

You might think working from a command line is painful, but the ability to have total control and instant answers to what is causing a glitch, instead of reinstalling Windows is pretty sweet.

Some of us like an OS we have total control over, like driving a European sports car, and others like yourself think the ideal is to insulate your ass in a bucket of Novocain in a Lincoln Town Car to keep the feel of the road from you as far as possible and be at the mercy of others to save you.

I have Osx86, Linux and Xp running on my Dell 9400 at a fraction of the cost of your Macbook Pro. Everything is working fine, but I couldn.t have done it with your fear of the command line.
