Windows XP SP3 officially RTM today, available April 29Have you been sitting around thinking you would go insane or explode if you had to wait for Windows XP SP3 one more second?  Well, your wait is over.  Windows XP SP3 has gone RTM (release to manufacturing) today and will be available on April 29.  Microsoft is still being secretive on some of the details, however.

According to ZDnet here is what SP3 will include,

“All previously released Windows XP updates, including security updates and hotfixes.
Also contained are some out-of-band releases.
A small number of new OS enhancements.

Some features of note include:

Improvements to “black hole” router detection.
Network Access Protection, which is a network policy enforcement platform previously seen in Windows Vista and Windows Server 2008.
Enhanced Control Panel Security Options which better explains the impact of the various settings.
Product key-free installation now possible.”

If you get the update through Windows Update it will run in size of about 70MB but if you get the standalone version from Microsoft’s download site it can be as large as 580MB.  The update cannot be applied to Windows XP x64.
