Windows XP, Vista patched faster than Sun Solaris, Mac OSX
Microsoft might be maligned for other things such as releasing an operating system that wasn’t ready for prime time and irritating its customers to no end with useless features but never let it be said that issues go unaddressed. A new study reveals that Microsoft is fastest to release patches for its operating system, Sun and Apple lag behind the great software giant.
I suppose that a multi-billion dollar software corporation can afford to dump untold resources into finding, developing and releasing patches for its products which run like clock work, one Tuesday in each month, Microsoft releases patches.
That’s not to say Apple couldn’t afford the same resources, whether it simply chooses not to do so or does so out of arrogance, because OSX is invulnerable to attack patched or not, no one will really know.
The article over at ArsTechnica goes into lots of detail among different distros of Linux, Sun Solaris, Windows XP, Vista, Mac OSX and the respective patch cycles of each. There should be enough data there to please even the most suspicious "inner geek."
What you really need to know is that Microsoft delivers patches in a more timely manner than all the other companies in the list and you can take that straight to the bank, well, you can take it somewhere.
Yes, there is the argument that the reason Microsoft releases more patches on a regular basis is because its software has more problems. That’s another debate for another time, take the data as you will.

So M$ bloody well should release patches faster. After all, they breed the virus writing industry with their insecure file system and operating system during the internet boom. *nix computers have always by their design being more secure and as Microsoft was once a *nix vendor, the fact that choose to go to an insecure way with their 9* series of OS’es leaves them responsible for all the script kiddies to industrial scale, criminal security crime industry and in my eyes, utterly condemned.
