Microsoft says Gates misspoke about Windows 7, still slated for 2010
By Jonathan Schlaffer
All of us age and as we do might say things that don’t make sense or nothing at all and that may have been the case here. Bill Gates said a few days ago that Windows 7 would be ready by 2009. Microsoft is saying that’s not the case and Windows 7 won’t be ready in its final version any earlier than 2010.
The company says that Gates may have been referring to early trials or test versions of Windows 7. The spokesman went on to say,
“As is standard with the release of a new product, we will be releasing early builds of Windows 7 prior to its general availability as a means to gain tester feedback. And, We’re not sharing additional information at this time.”
So, helpful, aren’t they. Many are hoping that Windows 7 will bring a slimmer profile than Vista, at this point, it would be difficult not to do so. Windows Vista has shaped up just fine as “Windows ME II” and with the speed that Microsoft wishes to sweep it under the rug; well, here’s to Windows 7, may all its dreams come true.
InformationWeek goes on to list the minimum requirements for Windows XP and Vista but none of those are real world requirements. To work well, Windows XP would need at least a Pentium III class processor in the 700MHz range with 512MB of memory and a 20GB hard drive and Vista, well, Vista needs a gaming class super computer just to squeak by.
