Free email and online chat support for Vista SP1 users

By Jonathan Schlaffer

Free email and online chat support for Vista SP1 users If complaints around Vista weren’t enough; Microsoft has received so many complaints about Vista SP1 installation problems that it is offering free online and chat support for anyone experiencing installation problems.

Microsoft usually defers users to the PC manufacturing for most problems but in the case of Vista SP1 is helping every user no matter how they acquired Vista SP1.

Information Week reports that Brandon LeBlanc, a manager at Microsoft said in a blog post that, “We are offering free-of-charge support to *anyone* who is having issues installing Windows Vista SP1.”  That also includes phone support.

This comes after some users were unable to install Vista SP1 or had issues after installation which could include everything from driver to boot problems.  Some computers were even rendered useless with the prequisite updates.

At this time, Microsoft has said it is working to solve remaining issues with the service pack which may require additional updates before those that have problems will be able to get the service pack.

This is not unusual for Microsoft, even Apple has had problems with updates to its OSX operating system.  But, these things are just expected to happen with Microsoft products.  It’s time the company started setting the bar a bit higher.  Perhaps with time, these problems will be solved; it’s likely that not all of them will be fixed before Windows 7 ships.

Microsoft should instead a free Windows XP to every Vista user. This would instantly “solve” all the “problems”.

Out of over 100 million installs of Vista, even a 0.01% failure rate equals over 1,000 problems - which as usual get blown out of proportion by armchair pundits. - particularly when many of these problems pertain to pre-release software or third party drivers..

This really is sensationalist rubbish. Microsoft has ALWAYS offered free support for ALL service packs.
