Negative Vista "reviews" in Apple ads not actually reviews
By Jonathan Schlaffer
It’s easier to make fun of Vista than it is to say something good about it. The “final” version of Vista had problems, SP1 has problems and they don’t seem to be going away with any speed. But, Apple should be more careful in the “reviews” it picks to use in its ads.
In one of the latest ads, the “negative review” that John Hodgman (aka “PC”) mentions about Vista isn’t actually a review at all but rather is an opinion.
Granted, the reception of Vista in both reviews and opinion pieces about it has been mostly negative but at least Microsoft got one thing right with the operating system.
But, the “reviews” that Apple points to in its latest ad are not really reviews at all but are rather opinions about the operating system. There is a slight distinction between a full review and an opinion of the operating system.
However, despite that, full reviews and opinions have pretty much come to the same conclusion; Microsoft needs a “do-over.” It may get that chance with Windows 7.
I’m not saying this is either a good thing or a bad thing but as Gizmodo points out it is merely an observation that there is a difference between a review and an opinion; even if both have the same negative connotations about Vista.

And to think I always thought reviews were based solely on opinions… Silly me!
