Free Vista Sunday, backup drivers with DriverMax
By Jonathan Schlaffer
Windows Vista have you down or experiencing problems? Time to reinstall it. But before you do, you’ll either have to manually hunt down the drivers for your system or install them from a disc the manufacturer provided. Either way it will take longer than having a single utility install all your drivers automatically for you.
DriverMax is a utility that will backup all the drivers installed for your system and provide an easy way to reinstall them once you have restored your system.
The downside to the program is that in order to get a “free” registration key, it will force you to register for the site’s forums. I suppose it’s not a huge issue, Avast does something similar with its Home Edition software.
Once you’ve done that and entered the serial key, the program will start. If you do not wish to create an account with DriverMax you will have 30 days to test the program before it expires.
Besides backing up drivers it has several other useful features as well. It can list existing drivers and provide detailed information on installed hardware. It can even scan your system and check for driver updates for all your devices; a very handy feature.
But first and foremost it is designed to backup and import drivers; the interface is intuitive enough that even novice users could use it. Under the driver operations menu, everything is handled by a wizard all the way through, it is foolproof.
The backup features are the cake and the extras are the icing. Unless you’re really paranoid of registering with yet another site (I’ve lost track and probably have accounts I’ve forgotten about) then this program should be in your software maintenance toolkit.
DriverMax is compatible with all versions of Windows Vista, Windows XP and Windows 2003.
