Vista to be replaced by Windows 7 in 2010

March 14, 2008

vista2bp81 Given the lackluster to almost hateful response to Vista, Microsoft has confirmed that it will be releasing Windows 7 before the end of 2010.  These details were released when it updated information to select partners about the Windows 7 Milestone 1 build.

The company says it is on schedule to have the final version of Windows 7 completed by the end of 2009.  It did not mention any specific time frame for the 2010 release; just that it will be released within a three year time frame.

Vista was completed by the end of 2006 so Windows 7 could be released by the end of 2009 or any time during 2010.  But it appears that the general consensus within Microsoft is that Windows 7 will be ready for release in the year 2010; when in that year remains the question.

Microsoft said in a statement to Softpedia that, “We are currently in the planning stages for Windows 7 and development is scoped to three years from Windows Vista Consumer GA. The specific release date will be determined once the company meets its quality bar for release.”

It has just delivered the Windows 7 M1 build to U.S. antitrust regulators for review.  There was no word on when the M2 build would be completed or ready for release.  However, M1 is set to expire by the end of this month so M2 should be coming along shortly.

Windows Live will be heavily integrated with Windows 7; Microsoft did not wish to comment on what, if any, antitrust rulings would come of that.

There you have it.  When Windows 7 releases with its new MinWin kernel being almost built from the ground up the hope is that it will cure anything and everything that was wrong with Vista.  If it is the success that Microsoft and the community hope it is, Vista will probably disappear from store shelves and online retailers overnight.

In the meantime, let’s hope the company kills off Vista Home Basic.  Let’s also hope that the Windows 7 line of products is a little less confusing than the Vista line; Microsoft should also adopt a pricing scheme resembling that of Mac OSX.

Ok, I hope that one of the “free” extras with VISTA ULTIMATE – Ultimate extras is Windows 7 in the future! A free upgrade maybe…because that would be quite “Ultimate”.

Microsoft is so stupid… why spend so much time on a new OS when they can do like Apple and base Windows 7 on UNIX, something already stable and secure…. idiots

In your sentence “Vista was completed by the end of 2006 so Windows 7 could be released by the end of 2009 or any time during 2010″

I don’t see the connection between the 2006 date and 2009. Microsoft should choose to release Windows 7 when it is ready – if Vista is that bad, maybe people should look at the next Ubuntu LTS (Long Term Support) version, 8.04. It will be released by end of next month. 6.06 was a cracker, and this will even more so.

I disagree with your pricing statement. Though OS X is cheaper it’s bundled with more expensive compulsory hardware that, at least in my experience breaks often. Windows is more expensive but can be installed on any hardware config and you can select your price range, effectively making it as cheap or expensive as you want. And side by side, my Windows laptop doesn’t break as much as my friend’s Macbooks.

Because you can easily change something 2% or 3% of users are running on a locked hardware system that doesn’t have worry about interoperability with systems making the world go round. Especially with an almost zero financial apps platform. And ‘nix has been running on Non-Apple hardware forever, while you had a choice of a Yellow Dog.
    You’re embarrassing knowledgeable Mac Users.

I am still confused by what the general public’s problem is with Vista? Is it not stable, or less secure? Are there no drivers for outdated and antiquated hardware?
If it’s that the general public that has used Vista can’t find anything that they are use to finding then the general consumer is too stupid to operate a PC.
Maybe they (Microsoft) could put out learning seminars for Vista? Oh wait they do that!
Windows 7 will have the same complaints as Vista and as XP first had the only difference is that XP has been here for 7 YEARS! DUH no wonder you know where everything is.
I have ran 95, 98, ME (sucked) XP and now Vista. the best was 98 oh wait that was when I took the inniciative to get aquanted with the OS.

I got my new pc with vista preloaded,I had asked the salesman at Fry’s if there were any with xp-nope.For the most part it has been ok but there’s compatibility issues with Nero,pc games and freezing up or plain seizure-type issues. It also has a s load of security features that are plain frustrating at times, like, running a AVG virus scan just to have it tell me I need administrative rights to fully remove some threats? If I own this beast should I not BE the administrator?go figure. The only reason I don’t replace it with xp is because my friend says xp don’t like the quad core prosesscers and such?dunno.
