Microsoft posts Vista SP1 image for OEM partners
If you just can’t wait until March for Vista SP1, you now have two options of obtaining it early. Any number of torrent sites have it available, see our thoughts on that before proceeding. Or, you can download a copy of Vista SP1 from Microsoft’s OEM partner site. This version is not meant for individuals so there is still a question of legality here.
You can download a full copy of Vista SP1 which comes in the form of a 1.2GB DVD image file. After downloading it, you will need to burn it to a DVD using an utility of your choice. Pop in the disc and you’re ready to go (kind of).
Unfortunately this version cannot be used to perform an update or upgrade of an existing Vista installation. You must perform a full (clean) install. I cannot comment on what effect this will have on the license key that was issued with your system. It may or may not work.
By the time you read this, the servers will no doubt be clogged or the download may have been pulled by Microsoft itself. If you’re still interested, Download Squad can accommodate you with the download link.
Considering the facts that you have to perform a clean install and the effect on your issued license key is unknown, you’re better off waiting until March anyway.
