Vista SP1 set for possible delivery right after Valentine’s day
By Jonathan Schlaffer
This is a rumor, repeat, this is a rumor, there is no need to panic. If a certain source turns out to be true then Microsoft will be releasing Vista SP1 on February 15, the day after Valentine’s day.
If it is released, I’d call it a late gift from the company everyone loves to hate. Vista SP1 is set for delivery at some point during this quarter which ends on March 31 but there are those that question a solid date in February.
Michael Cherry, an analyst with Directions on Microsoft told PCWorld, “For all we know, they could make it [the service pack] available tomorrow.”
Microsoft did not wish to comment on any solid date, simply reiterating that Vista SP1 would ship before the end of this quarter. None of the company’s partners could elaborate much either.
However, many think the service pack will be released “soon,” for two reasons. One is that two Release Candidates (RC1 and RC1 refresh) have been released. The company is also probably working with internal builds that have not been released and is well on its way to finalizing the service pack.
The dark ages of Vista is about to end and a new age of enlightenment is about to begin when Vista SP1 ships. While Vista SP1 isn’t due to improve the speed of the operating system, it is said to fix many bugs that have been plaguing users since the start.
Will it still matter? With Windows 7 just over the horizon. Will you wait for Windows 7 or upgrade to/buy Vista now? Since, SP1 is so close we can almost taste it.
