Vista already getting cut down by Windows 7

By Jonathan Schlaffer

Vista already getting cut down by Windows 7 Microsoft couldn’t ship Windows XP on schedule so it released a half-baked operating system with XP-like features, Windows ME.  Only it liked to crash and wasn’t reliable.  Vista might be more reliable than XP but it has enough compatibility problems and hardware requirements to drive many away from it.  Even those that use Vista everyday aren’t necessarily happy with it but have just accepted it, for the time being.  That being the case, Windows 7 has been fast tracked for a scheduled release of mid-to-late 2009.

By that time, Vista will have all (or most) of the bugs worked out of it but by then it really won’t matter because many of you will either still be using XP or will immediately replace Vista with Windows 7.  For some, it really is that bad.

Windows 7 M1 (Milestone 1) build is already floating around, although most of its features are incomplete and driver support is non-existent.  In order to make Windows 7 a success, Microsoft will have to make it compatible with the drivers used in Vista and make its security layer transparent (in other words, UAC needs to go or be much improved).

There are a total of three milestone builds planned as well as at least two RC (Release Candidate) builds and then the RTM (Released to Manufacturing) final build.

Windows 7 will be very similar to Vista but early indications are it will use less memory and will be more reliable as well as having some kind of new interface features.  The question has been raised by APCMag if the market will respond to such a soon release right after Vista.

It probably will.  Vista is to Windows ME as Windows 7 is to Windows XP, or at least, that is the feeling right now.  There’s no doubt in my mind Windows 7 will be better but that’s partially due to the fact that Vista needed new hardware which will have been around for two(ish) years by the time Windows 7 is released and there won’t be nearly as many problems.

Alleged screenshots of Windows 7 M1 point to a Mac OSX-like dock with what appears to be a minimized application bar floating on top of it.  Now just get rid of the Start menu, put in an all-inclusive application folder, spotlight(ish) search function and the Windows PowerShell and Microsoft would have made its own version of OSX (eight years too late).

lol wow how many time does Me-To-Soft need to rip off apples mojo before they get it right…lol let the windows fanboys and apologist start running their mouths now…

Its time to stop defending vista… even MS calling it a flop with this move.

Or this is Microsoft spreading FUD on the waters to attempt to keep customers from seriously considering alternatives? If your last OS was 2 years late, and universally panned, what are your options? Leak an Alpha with no real new code and put out the word the next OS is ahead of schedule? Now you have reorganized and magically solved all logistical problems? They are able to do this while putting out Vista fires? I’m skeptical, but it will be interesting.

Or… is this screenshot complete BS because the M1 build only contains a slightly revised version of the Aero interface.

I’m not defending Vista, I’m shitting on OSX, there’s a difference.

I HAVE THE SAME PROBLEM. I HAVE TWO LAPTOPS. ONE OF THEM IS OLD 1.6 WITH XP AND THE SECOND IS THE NEW, A HIGH SPEED PROCESSOR AND 2 GIG RAM BUT IT HAS VISTA. I SHOULD SAY THAT I AM MORE SATISFIED WITH WORKING MY OLD LAPTOP.

VISTA IS VERY SLOW AND HAS MANY ERRORS. I REALLY SICK OF USING VISTA. I DON’T KNOW WHY A BIG COMPANY LIKE MICROSOFT DOES NOT HAVE ANY URGENT REACTION FOR IMPROVING VISTA.

I DID SPEND A LOT OF TIME TO FIND ANY SOLUTION FOR IMPROVEMENT. BUT I REALLY DIDN’T FIND. THE QUALITY OF VISTA IS TOO LOW.

IT IS GOOD FOR MICROSOFT TO RESPECT A MILLION MILLION PEOPLE AROUND THE WORLD WHO ARE WORKING WITH THEIR SOFTWARES.

      THANKS AND REGARDS

You guys are just idiots. Flame me for defending windows vista, i’ll take the blame, no problem. The point is that Vista doesn’t have any problems if you know how to use it… I’ve been using Windows Vista Ultimate 64-bit for the last 8 months and I haven’t had any major problems. Not only that, people are saying that 64-bit also sucks, what, driver problems? If you know how to modify drivers, use compability to mess with every program, everything works. I even installed games on Vista that I weren’t able to install on XP! I literally put everything that I had on XP, right in Vista, with no problems. Of course, since I bought I new system, I invested in new software, but I’m still running with the core files I was using in XP. I even successfully installed pirated XP software on Vista, without drivers. Vista can implement drivers to work without much help. As much as I’d like to talk all night about the wonderful uses of Windows Vista, I have to go back to work. By the way, most users that say vista sucks, that drivers don’t work, that it has bugs are just downright fooled by morons saying a bunch of crap on the internet. *** The ONLY bad thing I see in vista is the fact that it eats your ram like no other. Solution? GET A FREAKING PC! You can easily run Vista without slowdown with an $800 dollar desktop. Stop flaming it, and use it properly before blaming it for everything.

So genius, how about telling us idiots what you have gained by all the gyrations and spending money on new hardware? What can you do now, that you couldn’t do with XP? I’ve been in IT since 1980, it’s not I can’t make it work. I’ve been in the early testing of MS operating systems since 98se because of my job. The only bad thing is a huge memory appetite? Other than that Mrs. Lincoln, how did you enjoy the play? Your method of evaluation of software is equal to this:

Muffler bad? Buy a new, louder stereo to drown out the noise. Problem solved. So yeah, we’re morons. And you have an outline of Gate’s scrotum on your chin.

    7. Rewire:

The memory issue really isnt an issue at all. Yes it uses more memory than xp would but if you compare memory prices and sizes at this stage when xp was released its no different except that memory is much cheaper. You can easily find 2GB of performance memory now for $60-$70. Everyone wants to mouth vista now but to me there is nothing wrong with it as it seems about the same as xp was only more modernized. Finally the got rid of the grainy xp ui and added something 3d. Vista is not the end of the road and if you don’t care for what it offers and you don’t want to let go of the comp you built or bought in 2002 then stick with xp. There is nothing wrong with sticking with xp, just like there is nothing wrong with choosing vista. Each of these builds are just steps towards something for everyone. I personally wish they would stop with the backward compatibility and start new and leave the companies that want to run on decade old software xp because it works and they are happy with it but let those of us who care about newer and better have a decent os thats not bloated with so many old drivers that are “just in case”.
