Windows 7 preview build already leaked

Windows 7 preview build already leaked Unhappy with Vista?  Can’t wait for Microsoft to release Windows 7 to get rid of it?  Today is your lucky day because a preview build of Windows 7 has already been leaked.  That is, if Microsoft hasn’t used its legal might to remove any trace of it.

An intrepid Neowin.net user went so far as to post a review of M1 (Milestone 1) build version 6.1.6519.1 which was deleted for unknown reasons by the poster.

However, Istartedsomething got hold of the cached version of the post which was added by the site administrator after the original was removed.  Could this be the Microsoft machine at work?  Decide for yourself.

Nevertheless, Windows 7 is far from finished as this early build is worse than Vista in many ways but is better in one very important way.  Keep in mind this is a very early preview release.

Video card and SATA drive support is almost non-existent and it seems that current Vista drivers do not work on it, hopefully this will be fixed with time, or not and we’ll have to buy new hardware all over again.  It will probably be fixed.

The interface is (for now) Vista all over again but it does appear to be more responsive and faster than Vista using under 500MB of memory after boot.  Compare that with Vista which can use up to 1GB after boot.  This could be attributed to the fact that the operating system is not yet feature complete and usage could increase in future builds.

There is also a new boot screen as well as new versions of Calculator, Paint, and Wordpad.  About time but since I have not observed the new apps for myself, I cannot comment on them but I’m not expecting anything revolutionary.

That’s about it for now, it shows promise, especially if Microsoft manages to keep memory usage around the 500MB mark.
