Small businesses flocking to Vista
It surprised many to find out that business adoption of Vista was actually on the rise but that was hard to account for. Not any more, as it turns out, smaller businesses are adopting Vista at a faster rate than larger businesses or corporations.
We reported on an analysis released by CDW which indicated that Windows Vista use was on the rise in the business sector which as a bit hard to account for, at the time.
Bmighty seems to indicate that this is because smaller businesses are adopting Vista faster than larger businesses are.
But it’s perhaps that they don’t need to, it’s just because they can. It shouldn’t come as a surprise that smaller businesses are more flexible and may not need to consider the needs of a 1,000 or 5,000 employees before rolling new technology out.
A business with say 20 people could up and replace their network lickity split as well as buying new desktops and laptops for everyone without the considerable expense or time that a larger business would need to consider.
Despite being named one of the worst tech products of the year, like it or not, most of us are eventually going to be using Vista, it’s just a matter of time. If Windows 7 is released on schedule then by the time larger companies switch, it will be time for a new upgrade.
Larger businesses should probably avoid Vista and wait for Windows 7, the individual and small businesses can do whatever he/she/they desire to do.

Quick points,
Vista comes on PC’s pre-installed like it or not!
Vista comes on PC’s pre-installed like it or not!…..
Small companies without any real IT department don’t know the difference between Vista and XP, it is just windows to them.
The PC’s in our company that came with Vista pre-installed are now running Linux, but as far as Microsoft or any other 3rd party is concerned compiling stats on the matter, they will have these PC’s listed as running Vista.

As the owner and IT department of a small business, my experience is that our 3 major software vendors have yet to support Vista and do not recommend the “upgrade”. We finished a replacement cycle in Q4 2006, albeit a rushed one, and will probably hold on to XP until 7 or until the vendors complete their Mac development.

“But it’s perhaps that they don’t need to…”
Of course. What is the actual “need” for Vista? I can name none.
