Handheld Vista PC plummets in price
By Jonathan Schlaffer
It’s possible to get a pretty nice desktop or laptop for $699 but there is another possibility. FlipStart, which makes an UMPC equipped with either Windows Vista Business or XP is now 50% off it’s original price.
The FlipStart PC 1.0 is a small ultra portable PC that features a 1.1GHz Pentium-M processor, 512MB of memory and a 30GB hard drive as well as the usual networking features (WiFi, LAN) and EVDO mobile broadband with Sprint subscription (one month free with purchase).
The keyboard is tiny, there is a small trackpad right below the 5.6" screen with 1024 x 600 resolution and it now ships with the standard (3 to 6 hour) battery.
Additionally it includes earbuds with a microphone and volume control, a port replicator, A/C adapter, carrying case and polishing cloth.
The reason behind the price drop remains a mystery, just a few days ago it would have cost you $1,500 which begs some questions. Is FlipStart going out of business and trying to clear inventory? Is the FlipStart PC 2.0 right around the corner?
Either way, you get an incredible deal if you are in need of a ultra portable computer for (mostly) business use as it’s too small to be good for much else.
