Microsoft updates Vista SP1 RC, releases "refresh" version to public
If you have to have the latest and greatest updates installed on Vista then this will be good news for you. Microsoft has released the latest Vista SP1 RC version to the public, labeling it Vista SP1 RC “refresh.” Anyone wishing to install the new version must uninstall the old Vista SP1 RC before proceeding.
Microsoft had said that this update would only be available to some 15,000 testers who had been handed the update a few days ago. The company just had a change of heart.
Instructions have been posted by Microsoft on how to install the Vista SP1 RC refresh in which it states that you must uninstall the older version of Vista SP1 before continuing.
The same multi-boot updating process is present in the new version as is an “installer cleanup service” which takes about an hour before the update actually begins installing.
On a related note, Vista SP1 has been scheduled for delivery before the end of this quarter and the company said that it is still on schedule and will be released on time.
There were those that doubted Microsoft could deliver Vista SP1 on time and this should silence those voices, of course, we won’t really know until it is released but things are looking good. Hopefully the final version of SP1 will be able to uninstall any previous version automatically and perform the update without as many or any reboots.
Vista SP1 is not expected to deliver any significant performance boost but is instead geared towards bug fixes and improving compatibility issues with hardware and software.
