Microsoft claims 100 million copies of Vista sold

By Jonathan Schlaffer

Microsoft claims 100 million copies of Vista sold Taking the stage at the Las Vegas CES (Consumer Electronics Show), Bill Gates announced that Windows Vista has sold 100 million copies, meaning that 12 million copies sold since last October.

He did not specify what the 100 million figure means, just saying, “one hundred million people are using Vista now.”

Just before the keynote speech, Microsoft released figures which according to ComputerWorld, stated 100 million Vista licenses had been sold, there’s a slight difference between licenses and copies.

It’s not exactly clear if Microsoft’s figures relate information regarding corporate or volume licensing programs.

There’s a lot of doubt that 100 million people are actually using Vista because the numbers just aren’t there to show it.  Vista ended 2007 with just over 10% of the market share, Windows XP still had a majority at 77% and Mac OSX had just over 7% of the share.

More information about this may be coming this week but I won’t be holding my breath.

    1. Matt:

You’d have to be just plain Vistarded to believe that many people are running that mediocre OS.

Sadly, I’m one of them for the time being.
