It turns out that most of you are perfectly happy sticking with Windows XP. Microsoft has created “the operating system that couldn’t” with Windows Vista. It is considered to be this generations Windows ME. The company is none too happy that users want to drop back to Windows XP or remove features from Vista. Though, somewhat grudgingly, it has offered a “XP downgrade program.”

After June 30, it will be difficult for many to buy a copy of Windows XP. The company is determined to get us all running Vista this year and it will stop at nothing to do so. With the next version of Windows due in 2011 and you need a new computer now or soon, you will have no choice but to buy one with Vista.

Ever since Vista was released to the market many have said that it used too much memory and hard drive space. Some of you may be familiar with nLite which was used to reduce the footprint of XP. Now, vLite does the same thing for Vista. It can be used to remove features and slipstream Vista with installed drivers and hotfixes to (another) disc.

The most common way to uninstall programs is to use the “Programs and Features” function in Vista’s Control Panel. If you’re lucky, the developer of the program wrote an uninstaller to specifically deal with that program. If not, Vista will rely on its built-in uninstaller to get rid of the program. This can leave behind unwanted files, traces of the program and errant/corrupted or extra registry entries. There is a better way, Revo Uninstaller.

This is a rumor, repeat, this is a rumor, there is no need to panic. If a certain source turns out to be true then Microsoft will be releasing Vista SP1 on February 15, the day after Valentine’s day.

Microsoft couldn’t ship Windows XP on schedule so it released a half-baked operating system with XP-like features, Windows ME. Only it liked to crash and wasn’t reliable. Vista might be more reliable than XP but it has enough compatibility problems and hardware requirements to drive many away from it. Even those that use Vista everyday aren’t necessarily happy with it but have just accepted it, for the time being. That being the case, Windows 7 has been fast tracked for a scheduled release of mid-to-late 2009.

With every previous version of Windows, Microsoft has released what it calls a “Plus” pack but really is an expansion pack for the operating system to add features. Vista is no different and will see its Plus! pack released in a few weeks. The Vista Plus! pack is aimed primarily at Vista Basic users and adds additional features to that operating system.

In order to effectively protect your system from spyware/adware or other malware that isn’t classified as a virus, it’s almost required to run more than one spyware scanner but running too many will bog down your system. Among the ones you should choose is SpywareBlaster.

Microsoft isn’t know for being reliable when it comes to announcing when its products will be ready to ship. But, indications are good that the minor restructuring the company has gone through is for the better and has announced, Windows 7 is on track, if not slightly ahead of schedule.

It surprised many to find out that business adoption of Vista was actually on the rise but that was hard to account for. Not any more, as it turns out, smaller businesses are adopting Vista at a faster rate than larger businesses or corporations.

It’s as all the arguments have said, XP is "good enough" and most individuals and businesses alike see no compelling reason to upgrade. There are reasons to upgrade, just not enough reasons to justify the cost in most cases.

This comes as slightly surprising news. A recent poll conducted by a large technology solutions provider shows that Vista may not be as unpopular in the business market as once thought.
