Free Vista Sunday, save laptop batteries with Vista Battery Saver

Free Vista Sunday, save laptop batteries with Vista Battery Saver You have a laptop with Vista, great but you are disappointed with the battery life, next to buying a more expensive higher capacity battery there is a utility out there that claims to provide up to “70% more useful” live out of the battery while away from electrical outlets.

In the past I doubted those claims and I still do, I didn’t see a 70% longer useful battery life but I did gain a few precious minutes ranging from 15 to 30 minutes, depending on what I was doing at the time.  The normal capacity of my battery is two hours, on average.

Basically, Vista Battery Saver works its magic by turning off Aero Glass and the Side Bar whenever the power adapter is disconnected.  I found the Side Bar annoying anyway so on my laptop, that is already disabled which leaves Aero Glass, Aero Glass is pretty, Vista just isn’t Vista without Aero Glass and as someone at one of my favorite publications put it “if you are running Vista Basic you are running the wrong version, period,” motion seconded.

Vista Battery Saver requires Home Premium and above since Vista Basic lacks Aero Glass, like it says above, it’s just the wrong version to have.

In addition turn off any power sucking accessories that might not be in use like your WiFi adapters, Bluetooth adapter and webcam, even if they aren’t currently on, they are still using a tiny trickle of power.

Or, just buy that $150 extended battery and be done with it, your choice.
