Office 2007 SP1 auto-install for Vista and XP, not a big deal
By Jonathan Schlaffer
There are many many articles around at the moment talking about how the Office 2007 Service Pack 1 has automatically installed for a lot of people. Microsoft had said previously that Office 2007 SP1 would not automatically install and instead be an option.
Needless to say websites, PC World among them are making a big deal of this. I’m not. Get over it. So, now you have Office 2007 SP1, so what? It’s not like it made many changes to the system, it’s not like all of a sudden your applications won’t work. I think the only problem here is that people are complaining about a service pack that they may not have wanted.
See above, if it doesn’t change the way the system functions as a whole then it’s not a big deal and is not worth worrying about.
There’s also the “problem” that those who install the public beta of Vista SP1 will also receive Office 2007 SP1 as part of that update.
I’m just sitting here shaking my head. Sure, there may be the issue that Windows Update is once again updating the system without user permission and if that argument is used then maybe there’s just a little bit of ground to stand on, but not much.
Answer these questions? Are any of your Office files changed? Deleted? Is the way Office itself functions, changed?
Most likely all of you will answer no. My advice at this point is to move on with life, stop worrying that the evil bad people at Microsoft released an update to make things better.
I suppose my point is it’s a service pack for Office and is therefore not a huge deal and some are making it out to be that for reasons I don’t understand.
