Vista SP1 public beta due next week
By Jonathan Schlaffer
A lot of news regarding Vista SP1 has been floating around for the last week or so and there is indeed light at the end of the tunnel. Vista SP1 has reached the RC (release candidate) stage and the revised code is shipping out to 15,000 beta testers.
That being said, Cnet has discovered plans (provided testing shows no problems) to release Vista SP1 as a public beta next week. After that point, it will probably be in beta for a little bit before making its way to Windows Update.
Upon release to Windows Update, Microsoft will allow those with Vista who do not wish to install SP1 to block its installation.
In order to install SP1 you will need at least 4.5GB of free space but a good portion of that will be returned after the installation is complete. There have also been optimizations to file sizes on Windows Update and of the service pack itself.
Sit tight and as soon as Vista SP1 (public) beta hits the interwebs, we’ll be downloading and testing it until we’re sick of it.
