More Vista SP1-related patches coming Tuesday
By Jonathan Schlaffer
Although Vista SP1 isn’t yet available to the public in any form, Microsoft is rolling out some patches to be included in SP1 early because of the plethora of complaints. Many of them deal with enhancing the reliability and stability of Vista.
All of these updates are currently available for manual download from Microsoft’s site but this is the first time the updates will be rolled out to users through Windows Update.
One of the updates (KB941649) is geared more for laptops which is said to improve battery life, increase wireless network connection stability and shortens the time required to recover from hibernation. This one has been updated since its initial release to deal with some optical drives not being recognized after it was installed.
An update to the way Vista handles USB devices (KB941600) is also due out that will address issues which caused Vista to crash when recovering from hibernation and the last one (KB941229) is an update to Media Center. Microsoft hopes to fix 2% of Vista related crashes with these updates. A whole 2%.
