SD card reader causing BSOD in Vista x64

By Jonathan Schlaffer

SD card reader causing BSOD in Vista x64 It seems that some users (or a user) is having problems getting a card reader to work under a 64-bit Vista installation.  The Acer laptop that is equipped with 2GB of memory will experience a BSOD (blue screen of death) almost every time the card reader is used.

There is no doubt in my mind that this problem occurs quite often with 64-bit editions of Vista, unless the hardware was specifically designed with 64-bit operating systems in mind then don’t bother installing a 64-bit operating system.

The forum post seems to indicate that a possible culprit is one of the memory modules conflicting with the address space of the SD reader.

It doesn’t help that Acer seems to shun everything 64-bit and does not provide an automatic BIOS updater for 64-bit operating systems.
