How to update BIOS on Vista x64 Acer laptops
This of course, only applies if you are running 64-bit Vista on an Acer laptop and only if the BIOS has been updated for your specific motherboard, if both conditions are not met then do not attempt this.
Since Acer has all but refused to provide an obvious way of updating the BIOS on its laptops that are running a 64-bit edition of Vista, there is a bit of a workaround that you can try.
The How-To includes instructions for performing a BIOS update on an Acer Ferrari 4000 laptop but in theory, should work with any other laptop that shares the same motherboard and operating system, but I do not promise that.
You’ll need a USB flash drive, a 32-bit Vista DVD and the aforementioned laptop. It basically involves downloading the new BIOS to the flash drive, booting from the Vista DVD and using the “live” version of Windows on the DVD to assist in updating the BIOS. Full instructions are at the link above.
This is kind of like taking your life in your own hands and is exactly the reason 64-bit editions of Vista SHOULD NOT be installed on ANY system, if the lack of drivers don’t turn you off, then this should.

Acer has a very bad client support and service.
Product quality also leaves much to be desired…
