Microsoft: No Vista service pack for you

November 3, 2007

Microsoft: No Vista service pack for you Almost every user of Vista is gathered around the glow of their monitor, eagerly anticipating the release of SP1, any release of the service pack would be greatly accepted at this point.  For a short time on Friday, it seemed that MSDN subscribers might get their hands on it.

That was not the case.  A posting over on the MSDN developer site claimed that the latest preview would be available shortly in the downloads section but that did not happen.

Cnet writes that the service pack is currently in very limited beta testing and is not yet available outside the confines of Microsoft, this was confirmed when Microsoft said the post was “a mistake” and no release is planned.

This is the second time something like this has happened, let us all pray this is the last.  The finaly version of Vista SP1 is not due until early next year and while a release candidate version and public beta are planned, no dates have been announced.

If Microsoft wants Vista to take off, it needs to realize that no one is going to widely adopt Vista until SP1 is out, in some form and businesses will avoid it like the plague until it is released (though some have limited deployments of Vista).
