Windows Vista is hitting its stride

By Ruben Francia

Windows Vista is hitting its strideIs Windows Vista finally hitting its stride? Microsoft and analysts seem to think so.

Microsoft is now saying that Windows Vista is starting to see mass adoption from businesses, nearly a year after it was released. In fact, the company expects that migration from XP to Vista will become more widespread as more problem issues are addressed.

The company also expects a strong first holiday season for the product.

“We feel like we are starting to hit our stride not only in demand, but in deployment in business,” Kevin Johnson, president of Microsoft’s platform and services group, said in an interview, Reuters writes.

The positive outlook has been driven by the delivery of impressive quarterly earnings last week, as well as a positive report from Bernstein Research.

Bernstein Research analyst Charles Di Bona said that Vista’s upgrade cycle is “underappreciated,” which he believes will be stronger than expected and will result in “above-consensus” OEM unit growth.

Di Bona predicts Windows revenue will grow 15 per cent in this fiscal year, while Microsoft’s estimate is 12 or 13 percent growth.

    1. Ken:

Microsoft should have had one, or at the most 2 flavors of Vista ala’ XP. When you have a lowest common denominator OS that even your users hate, having 6 or so versions will be seen as rape. I don’t see widespread adoption by businesses except by new computer purchase. After removing the new file system WinFs, and loading up the kernel with DRM bloat….what do you gain over XP? Most businesses will wait for 7.
