Web core fonts updated in Vista
In a bid to offer better look on the screen and on paper, Microsoft has updated its Web Core Fonts by unleashing 6 new web fonts during its Vista release early this year.
The new web fonts (all begin with “C”) include Cambria, Calibri, Candara, Consolas, Constantia, and Corbel.
Non-vista users can get these new fonts, legally and for free, by downloading and installing the Microsoft Powerpoint Viewer. Likewise, downloading and installing the Microsoft Powerpoint Viewer is highly recommended for non-vista web designers as they can see their page exactly the same as Vista users see it.
The new fonts will serve as an alternative option to replace old web-fonts by giving them a much needed face-lift. However, they are necessarily designed to stand on their own.
For more information, a blog named ‘hunlock’ posted a revised list of the core web fonts with the new windows vista fonts showing some suggested uses in replacing the core fonts. It also include a PDF document offering visual comparisons of the old and new fonts.
