Vista causes surge of OSX Leopard pre-orders

October 20, 2007

Vista causes surge of OSX Leopard pre-orders It seems more than a few people are fed up with Microsoft and are using the “blunder” that is Windows Vista to make the move over to a Mac.  Pre-orders for OSX Leopard are at an all time high for a Mac operating system.

According to the Mac Observer, solution providers have noticed that pre-orders for Leopard are almost double that of Tiger when it was released.

Patrick Brown, CEO of Brown Computer Solutions which is a specialized solution provider for Apple products said, “We’ve probably doubled the backorders of Leopard, compared to what we did with Tiger” and he went on to say that Apple’s move to Intel has lead to an increase of Mac users.

The article goes on to point out that poor reviews of Vista are encouraging people to stick with Windows XP or those in the market for a new computer are considering purchasing a Mac, some would be first time Mac buyers.

Some would even say that with the release of Vista, Microsoft has indeed pushed users to consider switching to a Mac, rare is the day a good word is said about Vista.

From my personal experience I would say this article is pretty much right. As a Mac user of some 4 years or so I have long been the only one I know who has had a Mac, however in the last 6 months at least half a dozen friends and relatives have seen the light and upgraded to new iMacs or MacBooks.

Partly I think this is the classic “Halo” effect of iPod etc, however the rest of it is probably down to them actually seeing a Mac ( mine ) and realising that first of all, they probably could convert and using a Mac is NOT difficult, and secondly they see just how slick the Mac is and they are sold.

The only new Vista install I have personally been involved in recently was for an uncle and it was the most abominable experience imaginable, driver issues, software that wouldnt work… the list goes on. It really isnt surprising that people are switching….

Clearly this author has no respect for the tenets of accurate and honest reporting. Since apple’s operating systems cannot be installed on PC’s, it is not logical to conclude that user displeasure with Vista is causing a surge in pre-orders of OSX, because PC users cannot use the OSX without a Mac. And if they were purchasing a Mac since the release of leopard, it would be pre-installed with the Mac and users would not need to pre-order the it in that case either. This article is an egregious abuse of free speech and irresponsible reporting of facts. It should be removed.

  7. Jonathan:

Adam, that’s the whole point. People are moving to OSX because of Vista… either that or are sticking with XP.

True, people with PCs can’t use Mac OSX but who’s to say that those people haven’t bought a Mac or are considering buying a Mac, oh, I said that.

Those purchasing a Mac after the release of Leopard, will of course get Leopard but did it cross your mind that those with Tiger might want to upgrade to Leopard as well? I’m not sure it did.

I think the article stays put.

One more article spreading Vista FUD..I must say MS have at all not damaged Vista’s reputation even by announcing some features would be removed compared to what the media is reporting…horrible partial baseless biast sensationalist articles.

Instead of comparing these two bursting at the seams, over inflated O/S platforms, lets try something new…lets compare Apple and Microsoft when they release completely new, from the ground up, inside/out platforms.

Mac OS 11 vs. MS (whatever they want to call it). This way everything will be new and fresh.

Should I hold my breath for this event or cave in and vash them both now?

  12. Dave:

I have no idea where people are having these “problems” with Vista. If you do a fresh install of Vista (or buy a computer with it pre-installed), then no one should be having problems. Driver problems? I have had none with the numerous installations I have done with several different hardware configurations. The biggest driver problems came from NVidia graphics cards, but for the non-gaming common folk this wouldn’t be an issue.

It’s not that Vista is a “blunder”, its that the users are overly stupid. Macs are successful because Apple holds your hand the entire time, which is a load of bull.

    Macs are:
-Overly Expensive (like everything from Apple)
    -No more secure
    -Crappy development platforms
-Incompatible with the best games (WoW sucks)

Vista is no more difficult to use then XP and the people who say otherwise are just plain retarded.

  13. Dave:

Plus NVidia has, I believe fixed all their driver problems. At least me and my friends gaming rigs don’t have any problems.

  14. Joey:

    Dave,

You are an idiot. I have drank the Microsoft Koolaid for 20 years, and after VISTA/NVIDIA/TDR errors/BSODS & problems with my XBOX360, I am sick of Microsoft and will be buying a new imac in January, I will also buy 2nd generation iphone, and their Wireless N router. I will also be buying 1000 shares of AAPL stock.

Microsoft has slipped up too many times. Releasing betaware and forcing its customers to troubleshoot for hours problems that should never be allowed to continue so casually.

Stop being a retard and stand up against a company that steals your money and treats you like a thief with their nazi activation schemes.

I will miss gaming, but at this point I would rather get my life back then play COD4 or CRYSIS, besides I already threw away $6000 on this POS VISTA Ultimate Disaster gaming system and will keep it around to play games. Biggest waste of money, time, effort, and sanity. No MORE

  15. Steve:

I have a gaming rig with xp/vista installed, but I also have a mac sitting on the same desk I use for everything else. When my gaming pc crashes, no big deal, I just restart. I still run all my important programs on the mac, super quiet, way more stable, more secure, simple to backup, and much more enjoyable to use.

  17. Computer Consultants Secrets Blog:

People tend to lack patience with technology products, not realizing that these days, pressured by the competition, many computer businesses decide to release products before they have officially been tested enough to be really free of all “glitches” or design problems. I don’t know if this phenomenon of releasing products too early will stop, but I do continue to advise computer consultants and solution providers working with their clients to not always go with the “latest and greatest,” but to really look in what’s going to work best for a person’s complex needs.
