Microsoft goes rogue, updates Vista without user permission, again

Microosft goes rouge, updates Vista without user permission, againFor the second time in nearly a month, Vista users had another unexplained update download to their systems and, in some cases, cause the computer to reboot for no apparent reason.

Microsoft took some flak for this the last time it happened when the Windows Update service was updated without user interaction and now it’s happened again, only Microsoft can’t explain it.

The update in question seems to have downloaded and installed itself to users’ PCs without asking permission and in some instances, rebooted the computer without asking permission.

ComputerWorld has several incident reports but Microsoft is at a loss of words for this one, issuing a statement, “We are still looking into this to see if another application is making this change during setup with user consent or if this issue is related to something else.”

Some have suggested that Microsoft’s security suite, Windows Live OneCare is to blame for the problem though the exact cause remains to be seen.

Microaoft downloaded Windows Live Messenger Update without my permission. I am on dialup so when the popup said a update was available I said no. I check my %temp% folder daily and there it was about 45Mb already downloaded. Eventually I took the update. Strange thing is I installed Microsoft Security Essentials and updates usually took 3 to 7 minutes. One update took 3 hours and 1 minute, so that is probablly when they downloaded the update to begin with. Also Microsoft is slowly messing up Regular Windows Messenger to get people to change to Windows Live Messenger. I have Ubuntu on one computer and XP on another. Both are OK, but this computer with Vista, I wish I never bought it, I will eventually reformat and remove Vista. Microsoft has a lot of people hooked with 93% share of the market but if they keep on going they way they are going they will slowly loose that gain. I used to be a fan now I hate them!
