Free Vista Software Sunday: PC Tools Firewall Plus 3.0 – a free Vista firewall

It’s Sunday once again and like I said, every Sunday we will be featuring free downloadable tools for Windows Vista. And today, let me tell you about a free firewall tool that you can run on top of the Windows basic firewall. So, let’s start.
While Microsoft claims that Windows Vista is its most secure platform to date, computer users need to be awarr that Vista will not protect them from hackers and malware. They will still need to integrate third party security solutions for Vista.
While you can buy excellent third party security solutions in the market, there are also outstanding third party security solutions that you can download for free. PC Tools Firewall Plus is one of them.
PC Tools Firewall Plus is from the makers of Spyware Doctor. Firewall Plus gives you much more control over the Windows Vista built in firewall. It features two different user modes: expert mode for advanced users and normal mode is for the average user.
The first time you run the software you’ll get a dialog box asking you if you want to allow any programs you’re currently running to access the Internet. But once you get past that, the firewall will just run in the background the next time you boot your computer.
You can also see the packets that have been blocked, edit advanced permissions, and view history.
In addition, PC Tools Firewall Plus features a new stealth mode that lets you connect to other computers on the network, but they cannot connect to you.
PC Tools Firewall Plus also works with Windows XP, 2000, and Server 2003, in addition to Vista.
