Microsoft releases four patches for Vista ahead of SP1
In an attempt to satiate the masses before the release of SP1, Microsoft has released four updates for Windows Vista to address some of the existing performance issues.
ArsTechnica is reporting that there are four updates in all but not all the updates apply to all editions of Vista.
The first update addresses issues that should have been part of Vista in the first place. It will shorten startup times and improve battery life on laptops. At the very least, you should install this update.
The next update improves the reliability of MSXML which is aimed at developers, most users could get by without installing this one.
Then there is an update that claims to improve the reliability of Windows Media Player 11 though that could mean just about anything. After that, we have an update to address some USB issues and one to deal with a number of bugs in Media Center which is included with Vista Home Premium and Ultimate.
Eventually these updates will be released to Windows Update but for now, they can be downloaded manually from Microsoft’s website.
Vista is shaping up to be a base operating system and topped off with a bunch of service packs and updates, that should sound familiar to Windows XP users.
