Where, oh where is Vista SP1?

By Jonathan Schlaffer

Where, oh where is Vista SP1?It seems that Microsoft is slipping on even its limited beta test phase as testers have not yet received any downloads or information regarding Vista SP1.  Many were expecting to have both Windows Server 2008 RC0 and Vista SP1 Beta by now but Microsoft isn’t saying much.

The builds were to be out “in a few weeks” at the beginning of this month and Microsoft has only said that “the code is on its way,” according to ZDnet.

Windows Server 2008 RC0 was supposed to be released last week but Microsoft has confirmed that it is now on schedule for a release next week instead.

There are about 10,000 to 15,000 Vista SP1 beta testers that have received confirmation from Microsoft saying the code will be out “real soon.”  That’s couldn’t be more fuzzier than a camera that is completely out of focus.  That only pertains to the code, who cares about the code?  I want the one I can install, what about that Microsoft?  What about that?  Or is that what the company is talking about?  This much is for sure, it isn’t saying.

Vista SP1 is supposed to ship in final version, early next year and a wide release beta is expected “before the end of the year.”  I’m taking bets that it is released December 30, 2007 (because no one works New Years eve or day, right?  Not at Microsoft, anyway).
