Yahoo Messenger for Vista still unavailable

By Jonathan Schlaffer

mess Way back in January, there was a preview version of Messenger that was Vista optimized and claimed that a public beta would be released by the end of the second quarter which ended in June.

This puts Yahoo! way behind schedule, it seems like Yahoo! is copying the undesirable trait of Microsoft which also has a habit of delaying pretty much everything it makes.

Cnet went so far as to ask Yahoo! about the delay and received the following reply,

“We continue to actively work on Yahoo Messenger for Windows Vista and look forward to sharing updates and information including the beta launch of the new service. We will keep you up to date on launch timing but in the meantime, information is available on the Yahoo Messenger blog and the Yahoo Messenger for Windows Vista product page.”

I don’t know if the current version of Yahoo Messenger works on Vista or not, it’s a service I tend to avoid at all costs.  If it isn’t working on Vista then may I suggest using Meebo instead.  You have to keep your browser open but should keep Vista users happy until their favorite IM app is fully working under Vista.
