Microsoft forces Messenger upgrade on Vista and XP users

By Jonathan Schlaffer

Microsoft forces Messenger upgrade on Vista and XP users Vista and XP users will have to start giving up some of their habits, this would include using MSN Messenger, I’m sure at least one person still uses it.  Once again, a forced upgrade, courtesy of your friends in Redmond (though, a forced upgrade is not always a BAD thing).

Windows 2000 users will be able to continue using MSN Messenger but the amnesty only extends to them.  From this day forth, Microsoft does hereby declare that all Windows XP and Vista users will upgrade to Windows Live Messenger 8.1 and will like it, or else.

If you are on Vista or XP and attempt to use MSN Messenger, the client will assist you (if needed) in upgrading to Live Messenger.  Of course, whether Live Messenger will function flawlessly under Vista is hit or miss so if it fails to function, Meebo to the rescue.

Also consider trading in your current IM accounts for Gtalk and getting all your friends to change as well, you know, only the ones you WANT to talk to.
